On January 27th Dave Lohman and Nick Jordan will speak about a new program at Montecito High School. Mr. Jordan, with the support of Principal Lohman, has developed a new curriculum for students interested in learning skills of the construction industry.  This  new venture in vocational education has proven to be very successful and rewarding.

In February, Dave Lohman became Continuation Principal of the Year in San Diego and Imperial counties. His commitment to high school students and his extraordinary leadership at Montecito and Future Bound (independent study) over the past three years is well-known. Before going to Montecito High, Dave was assistant principal at Ramona High School. Nick Jordan is a teacher at Montecito High School.

Ramona Community Singers

The Ramona Community Singers will bring toe-tapping holiday tunes to the San Vicente Valley Club’s December meeting, December 16.  The group’s mission: To light up the community with music – one song at a time.  The singers’s eclectic repertoire includes American classics, popular tunes, show tunes and unique versions of holiday tunes.  During the past year, the group has been busy performing at the Ramona Fair, the Hoedown fundraiser for Town Hall, the Taste of Ramona at Dunkin’ Doughnuts and leading a singalong at Packard’s Coffee Shop.  Founded in February 2014, the group has grown to approximately 25 singers ages 15-80.   New members are welcome at any time.  No auditions are necessary and beginners are welcome.   “The group has great fun learning music at rehearsals,” says member Penelope Fox, but warns that joining the group may cause “dancing, singing, humming and whistling after leaving the rehearsal!”  The group meets at 7PM on Tuesdays at Town Hall in Ramona.  The group is under the direction of Ramona resident, Gina Seashore. Ramona Community Singers perform, free of charge for local philanthropic groups for fundraisers and special events.  “We do welcome donations, though, to help pay for music,” says Seashore.  Other December performances include Ramona’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting event at the Guy Woodward Museum/Town Hall from 5-8PM and the Town Hall 1890’s Christmas Dinner.  Ramona Community Singers founder and director, Gina Seashore is a community music leader and teacher. She has worked with various community groups to make music for over 35 years including facilitating “Rhythm Camps” for kids in local schools, leading community singalongs, hosting hand drumming parties and teaching songwriting classes at senior centers.  She teaches piano privately, teaches music at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in La Mesa, and is the Balboa Park carillonist.  She also lectures on world music – her special interest.
